Project Stage 2024

> Presentation

  • "Project Stage" stems from the desire of the Milan Bar Association to support young lawyers eager to enter an international context, which is often difficult to access for those not already working in a firm belonging to large networks.
  • In this perspective, the International Relations Commission has taken the lead in institutional relations with foreign Bar Associations that share this vision.

> Purpose

  • To offer young lawyers from the Milan Bar Association the opportunity to carry out a period of training and professional activity at foreign law firms.
  • To consolidate relations with Bar Associations in different countries by offering the availability of Law Firms  of the Milan Bar to welcome young foreign lawyers for a period of training and professional activity.
  • The activity performed by the Stagiaire during the Stage at the Host Firm is free of charge. The possibility of granting the Stagiaire compensation for the activity performed during the Stage is at the discretion of the Host Firm.

> Content and Term of the Stage

  • The Stagiaire will be supervised by a " Tutor Lawyer " from the Host Firm, conducting research on legal issues, reviewing deeds and documents related to concrete cases dealt with by the Firm's professionals and, to the extent possible, attend hearings.
  • The term of the Stage is three months.

> Recipients and requirements

  • Lawyers of the Milan Bar who, at the time of application, meet the following requirements:
    (i) Age not exceeding 35 years at the time of application;
(ii) level "C1" or higher in the English language and/or the language of the country where the Host Firm is located, according to the CEFR ("Common European Framework of Reference for Language") rating scale.
  • Law firms of the Milan Bar, with a strong international vocation, available to host young foreign lawyers, for a period of professional training.

> Stage Venue

  • Foreign Bars from EU and non-EU countries, networks of Foreign Law Firms and International Associations join  " Project Stage."
  • Individual Stage destinations will be identified taking into account the availability of the foreign Host Firms  for each reporting year.

The candidate submits the application for admission to   Project Stage within the period between January 1st and January the 31st of each year, using the Form available at the Milan Bar Association Website.

  • Phase II
The Stage Committee invites the candidate for a preliminary interview, either in person or by video call.

  • Phase III
The Stage Committee submits applications consistent with the requirements described above to one or more Host Firms. Each applicant, if selected by a Host Firm, is put in direct contact with the professionals of that Firm.

  • Phase IV
Once the Candidate has reached an agreement with the Host Firm, he/she informs the Stage Committee, indicating the  commencement of the Stage period and the name of the Tutor Lawyer.

> "Stage Scholarship"

  • Candidates selected by the Host Firms will be eligible for a lump sum cash amount as a contribution for travel, board and lodging costs.
  • To this end, for 2024, the Milan Bar Association and the Milan Forensic Foundation will award no. 10 (ten) "Stage  Scholarships" in the amount of Euros 3,000.00 (three thousand/00) gross each. The allotment of each "Stage Scholarship" - which can be combined with other grants or financial aid that may be requested and obtained by candidates and applicants - will be disbursed in a single payment, within 30 (thirty) days after the beginning of each Stage. The amount of the scholarships is gross of the tax withholdings required by law.
  • In the event that the Stage is not actually carried out and/or is earlier terminated, candidates and applicants will not be eligible for any contribution and will have to return what they may have received.

> Communications during and at completion of the Stage

  • At the end of each month of activity, the Stagiaire shall inform the Stage Committee about the progress of the Stage by sending a report to the email address crint.stage@ordineavvocatimilano.it also signed by the Tutor Lawyer.
  • At the end of the Stage period, the Stagiaire and the Tutor Lawyer will jointly prepare a brief final report, outlining the activities performed and the overall outcome of the Stage.
  • The report will be submitted by the Stagiaire to the Milan Bar Association for the issuance of  CLE credits, to be quantified on the basis of the actual activity carried out, depending on the duration of the Stage and the commitment made during it, as attested by the Tutor Lawyer. Training credits will also be issued to the Tutor Lawyer of the Host Firm (to the extent of interest and applicable), depending on the activity of support to the Stagiaire, as provided by the so-called "self-training", pursuant to art. 13, c. 1 lett. f), of the Training Regulations of the CNF ("seminar study activities, also within their own professional organization and through the use of telematic systems, previously authorized or accredited by the CNF or the COA according to their respective competencies").
